Car Seat Safety

What We’ll Do Together:

Making sure your child’s car seat is installed correctly and showing you how to do it in a way that’s both safe and easy.

  • Double-check that your car seat is installed correctly, and teach you how to do it on your own.

  • Make sure your child is buckled and harnessed properly (or help you practice before baby arrives).

  • Look up recalls for both your car seat and your vehicle.

  • Check that your car seat hasn’t expired.

  • Answer your questions so you leave feeling confident instead of confused.

Keeping your little one safe in the car shouldn’t feel overwhelming. As a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST), I help families around the Twin Cities feel confident every time they buckle their child in.

A car seat safety check is all about peace of mind. I’ll walk you through your installation step by step, check the harness fit, and make sure your seat is both safe and up to date. If you’re expecting, we practice with a newborn doll so you feel ready for that very first ride home.

Each safety check takes about 30 minutes per child passenger (add 15 minutes for each extra seat). Please have your vehicle owner’s manual and car seat manual available so we can go through everything together.

This service is complimentary for birth doula clients and childbirth education students.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Car seats are tricky! Statistics show most car seats (infant carriers, rear-facing seats, forward-facing seats, and boosters) are installed or used incorrectly. As a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST), I help you install your seat properly, ensure you are harnessing your child safely, and check for recalls or expiration dates so you can drive with peace of mind.

  • The earlier the better! If you already have a child in a car seat or booster you will want to ensure they are properly and safely buckled in, as vehicle crashes are unpredictable.

If you are expecting your first child, you will want to schedule your car seat check before baby is born, usually before 35 weeks as sometimes babies end up coming early. This will allow you plenty of time to confidently know and practice how to secure your child’s seat and how to safely harness them in once they are born.

  • I can assist with all child passenger seats (infant carriers, convertible seats, combination seats, all-in-ones, and booster seats). For those who have older children, I can also help determine if they meet the state requirements for sitting in the front seat, and when they no longer need a booster seat in the car.
